Final Grade Calculator
Even a perfect final isn't enough to reach this target. Try lowering your goal or check the final's weight.
How to find the grade you need on your final
- 1Enter your current grade in the class as a percentage.
- 2Enter the overall grade you're aiming for.
- 3Enter how much your final exam is worth (its weight as a percentage).
- 4The calculator shows the minimum score you need on the final.
Walk into your final knowing the number
Your final exam is only one slice of your overall grade. This calculator separates the work you've already done from the final, so you know the exact score that keeps - or earns - the grade you want.
The formula
Needed = (Target - Current × (100 - Final weight) ÷ 100) ÷ (Final weight ÷ 100). It looks fiddly by hand, which is why most students just guess. You don't have to.
MyGrades shows this live for every class, all term long - not just at exam time. Get the app.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate what I need on my final?
Subtract the points your current grade already contributes (current grade × the portion of the grade that isn't the final) from your target, then divide by the final's weight. This tool does it for you instantly.
What if the result is over 100%?
That means your target isn't reachable with the final alone - even a perfect score falls short. Lower your target or double-check the final's weight.
What if the result is zero or negative?
Great news - you've already secured your target grade and could score 0 on the final and still hit it (though we don't recommend testing that).
What grade do I need to pass?
Set your target to your school's passing grade (often 50% or 60%) and the tool shows the minimum final score you need to pass.
