Calculate your college GPA in seconds
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is a credit-weighted average of your grades on a 0-4.0 scale. Courses worth more credit hours count more toward the final number, which is why you can't simply average your letter grades.
The standard 4.0 GPA scale
- A = 4.0, A- = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7
- D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7
- F = 0.0

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is converted to grade points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), multiplied by the course's credit hours, summed, and then divided by the total credit hours. That's a credit-weighted average.
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA treats every course the same on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA gives more points for harder classes (like AP or Honors) and/or weights by credit hours. This calculator weights by credit hours.
What is a good GPA?
A 3.0 is generally considered solid, 3.5+ is strong, and 3.7+ is excellent. Many honors and scholarship programs look for 3.5 or above, but it varies by school and program.
Can I calculate GPA from percentages?
Yes. Switch the toggle to Percentage and enter each course score - the tool converts each percentage to grade points using the standard scale before averaging.
